The Mail Panel:

With this new Mail panel, you can decide for yourself what items to show, and in what order. Not using the ‘Attachments’? Just hide it. Want your IMAP account on top? Just drag it up. Etc. Furthermore, you can now create folders to organize your mailing list and newsfeeds, which is great for users who have many of them. It is also possible to select in each category (like Attachments, Labels, Feeds, etc) which individual items to show and which items to hide. Speaking about feeds, you now will get the Mail panel for easy switching between feeds, without having to set up any mail accounts. Versie 4 van de populaire Mozilla browser zou een geheel nieuwe look moeten krijgen die doet denken aan Google Chrome. Tabs zullen nu boven de adresbalk worden geplaatst en de menu balk krijgt een simpeler ontwerp. De menubalk verdwijnt waarschijnlijk helemaal – of je moet hem handmatig activeren.

Voor de eerste keer zal iedere tab als een apart proces worden opgestart. Moch er zich foutmelding voordoen dan crasht alleen de desbetreffende tab en niet de hele browser. Tenminste dat is de theorie, feit is dat zelfs een foutje in een tab zelfs nu nog de hele browser kan doen crashen.

Ook nieuw: Met Firefox Sync wil Mozilla een standaard add-on aan de browser toevoegen die je favorieten lijst moet synchroniseren op verschillende computers. Een account manager helpt je met het beheren van al je login informatie. Je kunt met een druk op de knop dan inloggen op sites als Facebook en Gmail.

Met Dropbox zet je veilig elk denkbaar bestand online met zeer handige synchronisatie- en back-up tool op een virtuele opslagplaats. Zo kun je van op bijna iedere locatie terecht bij je bestanden waar toegang tot het Internet hebt. Voor heel wat mensen is de synchronisatie toepassing heel gemakkelijk indien lokale computer bestanden hetzelfde “gekopieerd” moeten worden als op de Dropbox locatie en visa versa. Dat gebeurt zelfs geheel automatisch en ongeacht tot welke grootte van de bestanden (tot max. 2 GB opslag capaciteit).
Indien je vrienden en/of kennissen aanbeveelt ook dropbox te gebruiken kun je zelfs je opslagvolume verhogen! Indien je eenmaal je bestanden online staan hebt, kun je met iedere Windows, Mac of Linux -geïnstalleerde PC toegang krijgen.

Ook zonder de Dropbox software kun je online (bv op openbare computers) bij je bestanden komen. Het is uitgebreid programma met de nodige opties en qua beveiliging veilig versleuteld met AES-256 encryptie techniek op een SSL beveiligde verbinding. Met de een iPhone en iPod Touch kan ook gebruik worden gemaakt van dit programma, zodat je op elk moment van de dag bij je gegevens kan.

PS JailbreakDe firma Ozmodchips.com heeft op YouTube een aantal clips geplaatst waarin een usb-stick in een PS3 is geplaatst, waarna een ‘hd loader’ in de xmb-interface verschijnt. Hiermee kan een spel op een externe harddisk worden geplaatst en gestart, en ook games op de interne harddisk van de PS3 zouden zo gestart kunnen worden. Een bijkomend voordeel is dat games vanaf harddisk twee keer zo snel laden als vanaf een blu-ray-schijfje. Het ‘rippen’ zou alleen mogelijk zijn met een blu-ray game-disc; kopiëen zouden niet worden ingelezen door de interne blu-ray-drive.

De werking van de PS Jailbreak zou door een aantal hackers zijn bevestigd en zeker 150 speltitels zouden met behulp van de stick succesvol zijn gestart. De website van de fabrikant is op moment van schrijven echter onbereikbaar.

De modstick zou de PlayStation 3-console in debug-modus weten te krijgen, waardoor kopieerbeveiligingen worden omzeild. De stick zou werken op firmwareversies tot en met 3.41 en met alle versies van Sony’s console. Ook homebrew-software komt met de stick binnen bereik.

Op de site Maxconsole zou de fabrikant van de PS Jailbreak aangeven dat Sony de hack mogelijk met een officiële firmware-upgrade tijdelijk kan uitschakelen. De software op de PS Jailbreak zou echter eenvoudig kunnen worden bijgewerkt. Ook is niet zeker of Sony het gebruik van de stick online zou kunnen herkennen, zodat het bedrijf gebruikers ervan zou kunnen bannen.

Mocht de PS Jailbreak in de praktijk goed blijken te werken, dan krijgt Sony een gevoelige klap te verwerken. De PlayStation 3 hield jarenlang stand tegen hackpogingen, terwijl de Wii en Xbox 360 al aan hackers ten prooi vielen. In januari van dit jaar werd echter de eerste bres in de beveiliging van de Sony-console geslagen.

AMD levert sinds versie 10.2 de CrossFireX-profielen niet meer alleen met de driver mee, maar ook als losse download, zodat updates sneller kunnen worden aangeboden. Nieuw in versie 10.8 is ondersteuning voor OpenGL ES 2.0.
